Business Support Officer

Job Introduction

Join our Business Support Service and play an important part in helping the Economy, Transport and Planning Directorate run smoothly. This varied,  office-based role offers the opportunity to support a range of services that contribute to the regeneration and development of Portsmouth.

 

Your new role

As a Business Support Officer, you will provide a wide range of administrative and practical support across the directorate. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Processing correspondence, applications and service records accurately.
  • Managing incoming post, payments and enquiries from customers and councillors.
  • Preparing letters, reminders, mail merges and high-volume mailings.
  • Raising and receipting purchase orders, maintaining office supplies and supporting travel arrangements.
  • Organising meetings, taking notes and producing accurate minutes.
  • Using business systems including Microsoft 365, Oracle Fusion, Sidem and Confirm.
  • Welcoming visitors and supporting with interviews.

 

Who is the person summary: 

You will be organised, resilient and able to manage a varied workload while working accurately and meeting deadlines. You will have good IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft 365, and be willing to develop your knowledge of the Council’s business and workflow systems.

You will be a confident communicator who can work effectively with colleagues at all levels and provide a reliable service to customers. You will also understand the importance of confidentiality and data protection, manage your time effectively and enjoy working flexibly as part of a busy, high-performing team. This role would suit someone looking to build or further develop their administrative experience within a local government environment.

Additional Information


Please note that this role is fully officed based at the Civic Offices in Portsmouth, Monday to Friday.


We are not able to offer sponsorship for this position.

 

Interview date: Interviews will be held week commencing 19th October 2026.
