Job introduction
Following a retirement, Portsmouth City Council is seeking a Deputy Director of Adult Social Care operations to support our residents in Portsmouth to live the lives they want to live.
This exciting and varied role will suit you if you have substantial experience working at a senior leadership level in adult social care and a recognised social work qualification.
Your new role
We will be looking to you to deliver on our strategy and improvement plan (which can be supplied on request) and to lead a broad range of services from learning disabilities to safeguarding; from mental health to long-term support.
This is a challenging but critical role, where you can really make a difference, developing our commitment to supporting residents with care and support needs, and making our city a healthier and happier place.

In this role you will be a champion of high-quality practice, with a focus on continual improvement. You will be an advocate for partnership and collaborative working, building upon our already strong city-wide relationships. Our committed and caring workforce will give you the platform to drive innovation and transformation and evolve how we support residents through strengths-based practice with a focus on outcomes and learning.
You will have the opportunity to champion and represent the authority in the South-East through regional ADASS networks. You will join a strong and experienced senior leadership team, who care passionately about our residents and empowering our workforce to deliver their best practice.
Who is the person
We are looking for an experienced leader with a recognised social work qualification, who is creative, and who will bring transformation that delivers positive outcomes. Reporting directly to the Director of Adult Social Care, you will be part of an experienced Directorate Leadership Team, leading and managing operational teams. The Deputy Director will create the right culture and environment for the workforce to flourish and ensure operational plans are delivered. You will be a visible leader who gives direction and has an impact.

Please ensure that you read the job profile for full details on the post. We offer hybrid working with the expectation to attend the office 2 days a week (pro rata for part time) depending on the role and business needs. You will be required to support out of hours cover for the service.

Interview Dates
