Job Introduction
Portsmouth City Council
At Portsmouth City Council we’re all about developing our staff, because we want to build a bigger and better city but we need the best employees to do so.
With a little over 207,000 residents and 7,000 businesses throughout this city, this unitary authority’s main goal is to ensure the best care and development of all those within the city. From customer service to multi-million pound projects, our residents are at the heart of everything we do.
Your new role
An exciting opportunity has come up for you to lead and shape the delivery of Portsmouth's Traffic Regulation Orders work programme. As the TRO Delivery Lead, you will manage a small team responsible for the provision of all the council's permanent and experimental Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) and Speed Limit Orders (SLOs).
You will work strategically, building the TRO function and enabling a resilient work programme to support wider transport statutory functions and scheme delivery. You will be a key member of the Transport Delivery Team, and will act as the senior user for TRO related projects.
You will support the team to engage and consult with members, community groups, residents and other stakeholders on parking and transport planning issues addressing varied and complex queries/issues raised. In addition, you will input into new parking and traffic schemes in particular with regard to appropriate signage.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have good working knowledge of permanent and experimental TROs and SLOs for complicated projects like resident parking schemes, restricting vehicular traffic and banning loading. We are open to applications demonstrating transferrable skills, knowledge and experience.
Well-developed project delivery skills are essential, including skills for coordination, liaison and the ability to plan and monitor project plans in order to achieve major projects on time and within budget
You will also have excellent writing skills including the ability to write clear, basic and appropriate information for reports, articles and briefing papers including technical and Cabinet reports where necessary. You will also have the ability to work strategically as well as proven skills to lead, motivate and develop a small team.
If you are able to work independently and proactively, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and if you are able to make decisions and think through complex and conflicting issues then we would love to hear from you.
